2004 Gruber Cosmology Prize

Professor Alan Guth and Professor Andrei Linde jointly developed and refined fundamental ideas of cosmic inflation. Inflationary theory holds that all matter in the universe was created in a period of inflation as the universe doubled in size each 10-37 seconds. The theory has informed modern science’s approach to studying cosmology and to understanding the history of the universe.
