2001 Gruber Genetics Prize       Rudolf Jaenisch   A relentless experimentalist, Professor Rudolph Jaenisch created the first transgenic animal model, which allowed him to study forms of cancer and neurological diseases. He demonstrated that therapeutic cloning could correct genetic defects in mice.
