2007 Gruber Justice Prize

The recipients are two judges and an international lawyer – all from Latin America – who, in the face of great personal and professional risks, successfully defended justice and democratic principles against oppression and intimidation by dictatorial regimes in their respective countries.
 
    Carmen Argibay
  A prisoner of an Argentine military dictatorship, Justice Carmen Argibay went on to promote gender equality and eliminate corruption in the justice system.  
         
    Carlos Cerda
  Judge Carlos Cerda is a lifelong judicial educator and courageous member of Chile’s judiciary, who is said to be the only judge in Chile to pursue cases of human rights abuse by the Pinochet regime while the dictator was in power.  
         
    Mónica Feria
  A torture victim herself, Mónica Feria of Peru won a huge reward for victims in the first international case in the Americas concerning violence against women.
