Current WomensRights Selection Advisory Board Member Akua Kuenyehia The Honorable Akua Kuenyehia has served on the International Criminal Court since 2003, and currently is first Vice-President and Presiding Judge of the Pre Trial Chamber 1. A barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana, she also has distinguished herself as a law professor, having taught criminal law, gender and law, international human rights law and public international law at the University of Ghana. Her extensive advocacy for women’s rights includes helping to establish the first legal aid center for indigent women under the auspices of the women lawyers association of Ghana (FIDA), a stint on the Committee on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and being a founding member of the regional women’s network Women in Law and Development in Africa which provides legal literacy for grassroots women. With Prof. Cynthia Bowman of Northwestern University School of Law, Judge Kuenyehia co-authored the textbook Women and Law in Sub Saharan Africa.
