Current Cosmology Selection Advisory Board Member Virginia Trimble Virginia Trimble is a past president of the Division of Galaxies and the Universe of the International Astronomical Union. She is currently Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Irvine, and a staff member of Las Cumbres Obsevatory Global Telesope Network, headquartered in Goleta, California. Her scientific interests include structure and evolution of stars, galaxies, and the universe, and of the communities of scientists who study them, and she has published something in excess of 500 papers, book chapters, and so forth on these topics. Trimble has received an assortment of minor prizes from the American Association of Physics Teachers, the US National Academy of Sciences, and so forth, and currently serves on committees that, if all goes well, contribute to the work of the American Astronomical Society, the American Physical Society and the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, as well as the Gruber Foundation. She enjoys nearly all forms of music, food and drink, and the written word.
